2026 MAB Foundation Internship Support Program

MAB Foundation Internship Support Program

The Michigan Association of Broadcasters (MAB) Foundation is committed to helping member stations create meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities for the next generation of broadcasters. In 2026, the MAB Foundation will once again offer $2,000 in financial support to qualifying stations that hire interns.

Of the $2,000 award, $1,000 must be applied directly to the intern’s wages. The remaining $1,000 may be used toward additional wages or to enhance the intern’s overall experience at the station, such as training opportunities, professional development, or equipment and resources that support learning.

To be considered for funding, stations must complete the application below. The intern must be hired prior to submitting the application.

Station Qualifications

To be eligible for financial support through the MAB Foundation Internship Support Program, stations must:

  • Be an FCC-licensed radio or television station with 2026 MAB or MAPB membership dues paid in full.
  • Currently air messages through either the MAB Non-Commercial Sustaining Announcement (NCSA) Program or the Michigan Association of Public Broadcasters (MAPB) General Services Announcement (GSA) Program.
  • Note: Associate and Individual MAB members are not eligible for this program.

Station Selection & Funding Limits

  • Up to four stations per trimester will be awarded funding.
  • Awards are granted on a first-come, first-served basis to qualifying stations.
  • Applications are accepted year-round.
  • If fewer than four stations qualify during a trimester, unused funds may roll over to the following trimester, allowing for additional awards at that time.
  • Total program funding will not exceed $24,000 per calendar year.
  • Each station group within a market may receive funding for one intern per calendar year.

  • Include a minimum of 80 total working hours over the course of the internship.
  • Provide a substantive, hands-on experience directly related to the intern’s field of interest.
  • Offer exposure to new skills, regular feedback and mentorship from station staff, and opportunities to network within the broadcasting industry.
