We are actively pursuing dynamic and diverse team members to join us in the role of Great Lakes Intern in Detroit, MI.
What You’ll Do: The Great Lakes Now Intern will support the GLN staff in all phases of our projects – which include a daily news and information site, a monthly show and regular online content and engagement events.
Essential Functions: Interns to get practical and realistic hands-on experience in one of the following positions. Please specify in your application which position you are interested in. Social Media Content Creation: Creating stories/photos/videos and text from segments, articles, show production, etc. for GLN’s social media accounts. Research and Asset Gathering: As needed, conduct basic research for TV and web video segments. Assist in finding visual assets (photos, video clips, documents) to use in TV and web video segments. News Reporting: Attend weekly department meetings, listen and offer content suggestions. Work with GLN News Director to develop story ideas and hone writing skills. Research, report and write stories on a variety of topics and themes for publishing on the site. Compile biweekly headline roundups.

Intern applicants must be currently enrolled at a college or university, or have recently (within past 6 months) graduated with a relevant degree. Requirements (Experience, Education, Etc.) Skills:
• Excellent oral, written, and organizational skills.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, Google Drive and other software.
• Excellent online research skills.
• General sense of administrative management.
• Photo and graphics creation in Canva.
• Basic video editing experience in Adobe Premiere is a plus.
Qualifications:
• Must be currently enrolled in 4-year university, sophomore or higher status preferred.
• Pursuing writing, English, communications/journalism, or business/marketing degree preferred.
• Able to work 12-20 hours per week for a maximum of 1 semester, or 16 weeks, minimum 3 days a week.
