Job Summary: WKAR, the PBS affiliate within the College of Communication Arts and Sciences and a national broadcast leader, is seeking a dynamic and versatile General Assignment Reporter to join our team. The ideal candidate will cover a wide range of topics including but not limited to breaking news, community events, the 3Es: environment, economy and education, and human interest stories; conduct interviews in the field and over the phone, ensuring a balance of perspectives and voices; write clear, concise scripts for on-air broadcasts, adhering to tight deadlines; work closely with the news editor to ensure stories are accurate, timely, and in line with NPR standards; attend community events, press conferences, and other news-related functions; and report live from the field when necessary, delivering news updates and providing context for ongoing events; and fill in as local host on All Things Considered and Morning Edition as needed.

The ideal candidate would have a knack for working across platforms to find and produce compelling long form stories, the energy to tackle quick turn spot news and the curiosity to connect with our diverse audience and the ability to explain complex topics in a way that engages and informs our audience.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 1-3 years journalism experience.
