Host/Producer & Radio Operations Assistant - WCMU Public Media
This position will serve as the local host of WCMU’s midday programs, serving central and northern Michigan. This position will deliver live newscasts in addition to other critical information such as weather, underwriting announcements, and promotional station information. When not on the air, this position will assist with radio operations and programming, including Pro-Track and Audio Vault systems. This position will occasionally report spot and feature stories, conduct interviews, write for our website, and may edit material for reporting staff and students.
Host/Producer & Radio Operations Assistant I (BH-1): Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting, Journalism, Humanities, Public Relations, or related field, or a combination of education and work experience that equates to four years. Experience hosting live radio programs and operating audio boards and other broadcast equipment. Must possess basic announcing skills. General knowledge of digital audio editing. Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships with faculty, students, visitors and fellow work associates. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to perform the essential functions and requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Host/Producer & Radio Operations Assistant II (BS-2): All qualifications listed for a Host/Producer & Radio Operations Assistant I (BH-1), plus: Two additional years of increasingly responsible experience with key elements of the job, including reporting situations, impromptu interview questioning, and scripted situations. Experience in field news gathering or remote recording situations. Experience with operations software including ProTrack and Audio Vault. Demonstrated advanced announcing skills.
Host/Producer & Radio Operations Assistant III (BS-3): All qualifications listed for a Host/Producer & Radio Operations Assistant II (BS-2), plus: Four additional years of increasingly responsible experience resulting in advanced skills with key elements of the job, including hosting live, regional, breaking news situations. Advanced experience with operations software including ProTrack and Audio Vault. Demonstrated expert level announcing skills.
