JOB DESCRIPTION

Saline Area Schools and the South and West Washtenaw Consortium (SWWC) are seeking a full-time Video News Production and Photography teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. 

 

The ideal candidate will teach students how to apply technical knowledge and hands-on skills in the production of television and multimedia projects. Instruction will cover key areas such as audio and lighting design, camera operation and maintenance, studio and field production, production planning, broadcast engineering, and related computer technologies. The course will also explore specialized areas including news production, entertainment programming, live talk shows, sports broadcasting, commercial production, live events, and studio multi-cam production and recording/taping.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education/Certification

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate in Industrial Technology Education (IX) or similar.
  • Valid Michigan Vocational Certification in CIP code 10.0202 - Radio & Television Broadcasting Technology and pathway or be eligible for Interim Occupational or Annual Authorization Certificate with a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4,000 recent and relevant hours of work experience in the field within the past six years and willing to pursue required credentials.

Preferred Experience

  • Previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Career Technical Education (CTE) experience and/or knowledge preferred.
  • Knowledge of state and national video and media student organizations such as the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association (MIPA), Journalism Education Association (JEA), etc. 
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Cloud applications including Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, etc.
  • Experience in live studio production.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Provides and coordinates the instructional program for students in the assigned area of responsibility, and evaluates results continuously.
  • Plans curriculum and prepares lessons and other instructional materials to meet the individual needs of students, considering such factors as physical, emotional, and educational levels of development as well as cultural competency.
  • Assesses students’ achievement and develops instructional strategies to meet the individual educational needs of students in the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Regularly document student progress using assessment tools, monitoring through observations/evaluation, and/or collecting data. Uses student progress data to improve instruction.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe, inclusive, and conducive to individualized and small-group instruction, and student learning.
  • Participates as a part of Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings when necessary.  Assists in the development and implementation of student IEP goals and instruction based on individual student needs.
  • Maintains accurate records in a manner consistent with state and federal law as required by the District.
  • Complete annual state-required documentation required for teaching a CTE class.
  • Participates in district-level staff meetings, in-service activities, staff development/special programs, school improvement teams, and planning committees as appropriate to the assignment.

Work in standard office and school building environments requiring mobility, visual and auditory acuity, communication skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, problem-solving skills, adaptability, technology proficiency, physical stamina, and environmental awareness.

 

FLSA STATUS: 

Exempt

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Per the SEA Master Agreement
  • A full benefit package as defined by the Saline Education Association (SEA)

SALARY

Per the SEA Master Agreement.
